Rain-or-shine. Hiking shoes recommended. All welcome—forward this invite if you like.
Park in the ABS parking lot and look for a group on the knoll to the South or down the Nature Trail to the Southwest. Join open discussion of ideas for the evolving nature of the town land East of Talcott Rd, North of the Fire Station, and South of ABS. Educational and community use and needs will be explored. There is a nature trail from the ABS access road to the brook and several ABS Kindergarten classes use the knoll (a.k.a. “Tree Island”) for outdoor classrooms. There are informal trails used by residents for dog-walking, cross-country skiing, etc. Chapin Kaynor (school and conservation volunteer) has proposed hastening the succession of pasture to mostly Northern Forest in the form of a country park built around educational and primitive trail uses and keeping the sledding hill. County Forester Ethan Tapper will tour the site with attendees and lead discussion of ideas while sharing his knowledge.
Note: This is NOT part of the Community Park development to the North and West of ABS currently being explored by the Recreation and Parks Department.
All are welcome to this event. Invitees include School personnel and volunteers (e.g. Four Winds parents), Conservation Planner and Commission, US Fish and Wildlife, and interested community members including neighbors and Sustainable Williston volunteers who have been working on Allen Brook riparian plantings and beaver damage mitigation.
