Meet at Chapin’s and cut down a few mature silky dogwood in the town hall meadow, make into fascines and live stakes, and plant on site.  We might do some red osier dogwood as well.  This is a small project and I think we could do this easily in 1 hour—there will be some digging, some cutting with loppers, and some fashioning of fascines. I got the go-ahead from Melinda Scott to try this out in the meadow.  There are two large clumps of silky dogwood and we could do just the one, or try doing both.   If we also want to walk the nature trail, we could, and I think the combined activities would take two hours, so minimum one hour, maximum two.  Any and all of this requires waterproof footwear, and shovels are welcomed, especially those with a straight flat blade.  The reason for learning this way of propagating native dogwoods and willows?…   If we are good at propagating dogwoods and willows from live stakes and fascines, this might become an important method of helping manage wetlands and help Allen Brook.

Breaking news…  Christine Cramer of the Intervale Center, an expert in this process, will join us!  I went to the Intervale Center in September to learn more about this from Christine.  A couple of photos are attached.

Please come, even if only to socialize or observe.  However, do bring waterproof footwear for sure.  We are in the village sort of behind the LeZot camera shop, several houses East of the Town Hall and Police Station.   Our driveway is “Penny Lane,” and if it fills up, there is parking at the Williston Rd end of Penny Lane or behind the Town Hall (if you park at the town hall, you can walk through the meadow to join):
