Dear SW folks,
At last evening’s SW monthly meeting, we decided to hold this month’s social on Sunday, December 12, at 1:00. This is partly based on the busy time of year and partly on the weather forecast (wind and rain on Saturday, but nice on Sunday).

The social will be a 1/2 mile walk through land to the South of the Allen Brook School parking lot, including an active beaver section of Allen Brook, and will end at an outdoor classroom (stump circle) where we can socialize and enjoy the views from what the ABS students call “Tree Island.”

This is mostly town-owned land that I’ve proposed become a “forest park.” Several of you toured this site last month with Ethan Tapper, our Chittenden County Forester. Since then Katie Kain of US Fish and Wildlife has also looked at it and she will be helping map out a plan next week. Your input on Sunday will be valuable.

And… we will have a good time socializing. Bring a thermos and a snack if you wish. Hiking shoes are a good idea as some of the walk is off trail. The walk will take about 30 minutes and we will socialize after. Plan on an hour to an hour and a half depending on how much you wish to socialize.

If you arrive late, walk down the Nature Trail that heads South from near the SW corner of the parking lot and turn left when you reach Allen Brook. The outdoor classroom where we will end up is at the top of the knoll visible from the parking lot.
